The Story of Sayen

Mabel Cook Cole (1846-1923) was an American anthropologist and writer whose literary work was dedicated mostly to the life of ancient people. 


'The Story of Sayen' is a Philippine folk tale which was collected and retold by Mabel Cook Cole. The story goes around Sayen — a very handsome and brave son of a very   ugly and bad-natured woman. The young man sets off traveling in order to find a wife. He is determined to marry Danepan, a girl considered the most beau tiful of all. But Danepan is shy and when Sayen comes to the door she sends her maid to meet him….
