On a nameless dark-web forum known only as /null/, veteran moderator “Janus” stumbles across Thread #00000000—an unbroken chain of posts that accurately forecasts brutal murders hours before they occur anywhere in the world. No usernames, no IPs, just precise timestamps, locations, and methods. At first Janus assumes it’s an elaborate hoax fed by news leaks, but when a post predicts a stabbing in Prague that happens ninety-seven minutes later, he decides the thread must be erased to prevent panic and copycats.
The moment he reaches for the delete key, a new reply appears: “Janus will die at 03:14 tomorrow. Knife. 52.5200° N, 13.4050° E. He will beg.” His real name, address, and childhood fears follow in subsequent posts. The thread now belongs to him alone; every attempt to ban, nuke, or report it causes the predictions to accelerate, each more intimate and inescapable. As law-enforcement agencies and anonymous killers begin circling the forum, Janus races to discover whether the thread is a sentient entity, a collective of murderers gaming the future, or something that has always existed, waiting for someone to notice. With every passing hour the posts grow calmer, almost affectionate, promising that his death will be “the last prediction, the only one that matters.” Trapped between exposing the thread and becoming its final proof, Janus must decide if reality itself can be moderated—or if he is merely the latest caretaker about to be retired.
