Descripción editorial
Introduction Because of improper disposal of lead acid batteries and back yard smelting operations, resulting in contamination of soil and the environment, the high incidence of lead poisoning in Jamaica is of great concern in urban Jamaica. (1) The Ministry of Health has been working in collaboration with Public Health Inspectors as well as research institutions to identify the sources of lead in the Jamaican environment. The occupation of lead smelting has contributed to the many problems faced by the poor communities in which they are located island-wide.
