Description de l’éditeur
In Victorian England, an Earl and his two brothers own and run a successful gambling hell, The Rose Room. Unbeknownst to most of London, they also accept assignments for matters sensitive to the Crown.
The Earl of Huntington (Hunt) is a silent partner in a successful gambling hell run by his two brothers. A well-respected member of the ton, he moves about in Society as an unknown agent for the Crown on its most sensitive matters.
Lady Diana is a long-time friend of Hunt's with the ability to embroil herself in difficult matters that require his assistance. Once again she needs his help, but this situation could be a major scandal if discovered.
Against his better judgment, Hunt agrees to her scheme, but this time the circumstances cause him to see the woman he'd always considered just a friend in a different way. The strong attraction he feels must be squelched since she would never do as his Countess. Scandal follows her every move.

A great first in a series
Will her free spirit doom her chance at happiness...
This story was absolutely not what I expected. It followed one lead then went to an other to go back to the first one.
Hunt and his Lady Trouble are perfect together, he quiets her recklessness and she spices his days. Yet it took them both years to come to this conclusion.
Diana had not the usual peer’s daughter prim and proper upbringing, she was challenged by her grandmother to be herself and not a lemming only following society’s dictates. Still, as a woman, she has very little option to get loose. Her every move is scrutinized and judged, why she is often found lacking.
I did not understand at first her virulent reaction in the last part of the book, but reputation was everything for a woman, without she was left with nothing to hold on. And she many time paid the price for not conforming to society’s rules, even if she was not at fault.
Hunt thought he had everything mapped out but none of the perfect debutantes held his attention after the first encounter. They might represent what he believed he wanted but it is a very different lady that catches his eyes at every turn, and whatever he thinks, she is the one he can’t stop thinking about.
So would it be so much of a disaster if he gave his desires free run.
So this is a surrender of two people who thought they were far from the other’s ideal, but come to see one another under a different light. They realize in their own time that they were always there for the other, and a separated life would be very dull for them.
4.5 stars
I am now curious about Hunt’s brothers.
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 : one onscreen detailed lovemaking scene.
