Description de l’éditeur
Lady Amy's midwife has been murdered, and the detectives are fumbling around. Can she find the killer before Lord William moves them to the country?
After almost a year of marriage, amateur sleuths Lord William and Lady Amy have put aside their investigating skills to prepare for their first child. 'Twould be an easy thing except dead bodies are once again popping up.
A corpse discovered floating in the Roman Baths was startling enough, but the unfortunate victim is Lady Amy's and her sister-in-law Eloise's midwife.
She adheres to her husband's request that she not get involved.
For a while.
Since she has put aside writing her current mystery novel until after the babe is born, she finds herself bored and begins a new hobby that Lord William fears may eventually do him in.
Then another body shows up.
Now really, what's a bored mystery writer to do?

A lovely addition to this series
When I learned there would be a fourth book in this series, I was over-the-top happy.
It was also a good surprise for me that the author integrated this series with her other one set in Bath, The Merry Misfits of Bath.
As the first three books were released by Mystery publishing house, I expected it to stand out from her other published work. But as the continuation of this series is set under the author’s name, I am happy to see again Dr Stevens and her husband.
This book open one year after the last, with a very pregnant Lady Amy and her husband happy the body count has finally settle to zero.
Well, until her haughty full of herself midwife meets her maker in some unnatural way.
So as usual, they vow at first to not get involved but soon Amy can’t stand injustice thus seeks to find the truth when William wants her to drop the subject to not endanger herself in her present condition. But Amy would not be the woman he loves if she were not looking for the truth, so he sees reason and they join force to solve this affair.
I loved to revisit them as a married couple, William taking care of Amy, checking after her as he knows she can be quite absent-minded, they complement one another, each trying to please the other, with much or less success ( in the cooking area…).
The mystery is quite complexe and leads us from one path to another as we jump with them after one suspect to another.
A much entertaining addition to this series.
