Eve has lived in a little cottage by the sea with her aunt and uncle for as long as she can remember. The nearby fishing village provides for a quiet life filled with simple comforts and even simpler people.

The mundane reality of her dull future seems unavoidable: marry a suitable husband and raise a family, not gallivant across Europe seeking adventure. While the villagers claim there's no place better to live, Eve yearns for the romance and excitement that are promised in her favorite stories. Living vicariously isn't enough to slake her wanderlust, but it's as close as she will ever get to freedom.

Until one night during a raging storm when a wounded man unexpectedly comes to the door. Eve takes pity on the visitor even though her relatives are away, but inviting him inside may become her last mistake.

To the stranger, she is little more than a delicate snack.
