None of the two heroes are really flawed, they just see things differently.
From Malcom’s point of view, a woman is to be protected at all cost as she is easily taken advantage. He is a man of honor and never one to abuse of his strength when it is written in his DNA to protect the weakest. So upon realizing his new bride is the woman he found a year ago venturing alone, he is set on giving her boundaries to where she can go and how she must travel.
Christine has grown a bit wild, the youngest daughter permitted to run into mischief and scrap. So she struggles with orders and limitations, not really prepared to see when she should retreat or not. Why they first clash but both are also mature enough to want to make their union work even if they have each their opinion of how it should work.
Lucky for them, their chemistry is over the top, helping them through the bedchamber’s games to quiet their discontent and learn to trust and like more and more the other.
The mysterious illness offered to the plot a way for them to straighten their bond while they unravel it.
