They killed Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
John Smith is not your average teenager.
He regularly moves from small town to small town. He changes his name and identity. He does not put down roots. He cannot tell anyone who or what he really is. If he stops moving those who hunt him will find and kill him.
But you can't run forever.
So when he stops in Paradise, Ohio, John decides to try and settle down. To fit in. And for the first time he makes some real friends. People he cares about - and who care about him. Never in John's short life has there been space for friendship, or even love.
But it's just a matter of time before John's secret is revealed.
He was once one of nine. Three of them have been killed.
John is Number Four. He knows that he is next . . .

Fantastic But Weird
The book itself, and the storyline is brilliant. Although, even though the voices for Henri and John Smith/4 are good, you can't take the female voices seriously.
would have preferred a book rather than an audio file.
The story itself was quite compelling and engaging. It made me want to carry on to see what would happen next. That has also made me both look forward to the sequel and be annoyed that were unfinished themes at the end of the novel.
The reading itself was less pleasing. I can see the need to distinguish between the various characters, but the falsetto given to the girls and women in the novel was extremely grating.
Overall I was happy to have followed the novel, but I think I would have preferred to read it rather than listen to this audio book.

Loved it. Really got into it. Looking forward to the sequel.
