Publisher Description
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable and quiet life. His contentment is disturbed one day when the wizard, Gandalf, and the dwarves arrive to take him away on an adventure.
Smaug certainly looked fast asleep, when Bilbo peeped once more from the entrance. He was just about to step out on to the floor when he casught a sudden thin ray of red from under the drooping lid of Smaug’s left eye. He was only pretending to sleep! He was watching the tunnel entrance!
Whisked from his comfortable hobbit-hole by Gandalf the wizard and a band of dwarves. Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon…
Reviews
‘A finely written saga of dwarves and elves, fearsome goblins and trolls… an exciting epic of travel and magical adventure, all working up to a devastating climax.’

Love this Martin Shaw version!
I know the book well and the abridgement is unnoticeable; the tale leaps into life in Martin Shaw’s reading! We listened to it with the kids for years especially in the car on long journeys and it has lost none of its magic 😁
One of my absolute favourites!
I originally got this audiobook as a kid on CD, listened to the whole thing in one go, and fell in love with it. Unfortunately I lost it over the years.
I’ve been searching for this narrator since then and I’m over the moon to have found it again.
The voices for the characters and pace of reading are perfect and it genuinely makes the story sing.
Yes it’s a little expensive but it’s well worth the price for just under 6 hours of audio.
Overall it’s a fantastic reading of a great book and I would recommend it to anyone.
Please Review the Book
Please could listeners review the book and not Apple’s prices. Yes it could be seen as expensive but I feel potential people wanting to buy this would benefit from hearing about the content they can’t see, not the cost that they can and comments Apple will probably never read.
