This instalment sees Melvin Mars a rising American football star, in prison on death row for 20 years. He was convicted of the murder of his parents a crime that he has always denied.
His time is up and he is hours away from being executed. His lawyer who he trusts with his life has worked hard for him. Then at the eleventh hour he is a free man but the corrupt prison guards are going to do their best to make sure he leaves in a body bag.
Enter Amos Decker who has Hyperthymesia a rare brain condition which means he never forgets anything and he remembers them with precision.
He also has Synesthesia meaning he sees colours such as dark blue when people are near death and electric blue when death occurs and giant numbers come flying at him. Every so often he learns more about his condition which happened as a result of a near fatal accident as a professional football star.
He is now part of an FBI task force of civilians with special skills who deal with cold cases. Melvin’s case stands out to him and with much persuasion they take on the case.
As Amos and the team pick apart the case it soon becomes extremely dangerous, and the whole thing is a conspiracy to cover up secrets that reach the top of the political chain and even someone on the team cannot be trusted. How will they ever get to the truth and race comes into play.
