THE BRAND NEW, ADDICTIVE UP-ALL-NIGHT THRILLER

Welcome to THE WEEKEND . . .

When a group of friends rent a converted farmhouse in the Yorkshire Dales, they have little idea that this one weekend may change the course of their lives forever.

While out on a walk, a storm descends and the friends take shelter in the mouth of an old lead mine. Inside, they discover a backpack filled with more money than they've ever seen.

Of course, they agree, they will hand the money to the police at the first opportunity. But as the storm continues and time passes, some of the party begin to think again. Because there are secrets festering at the heart of this group. Debt. Obsession. A career on the brink. Problems that could be solved instantly with an unexpected windfall.

And perhaps they don't know each other as well as thought they did.

Before long, six good friends find themselves sliding headlong into a world of deceit, treachery, betrayal and murder . . .

*Desperate Acts*

**3.5 Stars - rounding up to 4 Stars as it kept my interest**

Whenever I spot a book featuring one of my favourite actors Nicola Walker’s narration, I have to check it out. This one was particularly intriguing.

Three married couples decide to rent a farmhouse together and everything seems perfect until they venture out for a walk. They’re caught in a storm in the Yorkshire Dales and desperate for shelter they stumble upon an old lead mine. While waiting out the storm they discover a backpack filled with money.

Back at the farmhouse they find it’s over a million pounds! Initially, they consider handing it over to the police but then they change their minds. Reflecting, they decide to divide it up and keep it.

However, each couple is hiding secrets and danger looms. Someone’s onto them and they face a deadline to return the money. As secrets are revealed, none of them can rest on their laurels, the tension escalates.

The grand reveal, the truth behind everything, was both shocking and ridiculous. It illustrated how desperation can cloud judgement.
