*The Trials of Life*
This book appeared to be a slow burn, yet the pace accelerated in a gentle way. I completed it a few days ago and am only now writing a review.
We meet Lila, who becomes a single mother when her ex-husband-to-be leaves her for another woman. She cannot escape the situation because the other woman’s son attends the same school as her younger daughter, making pick-up time awkward and inviting playground gossip.
Years earlier, Lila wrote a successful self-help book; although it aided many, she now balances single parenthood with moving forward.
Adding to the steady chaos, her stepfather moved in after her mother died, acting as a father figure because her American biological father—an actor—was absent.
After sixteen years, he appears unexpectedly seeking a place to stay.
She wishes to refuse but feels pity.
The story unfolds as Lila manages her unpredictable father, her children, her ex-husband, and the other woman.
It follows her attempt to build a life while facing writer’s block and the errors that arise during life’s challenges.
The narrative felt relatable; I could picture mapping out a life only to encounter a curveball. There are humorous moments too.
Wow!
It was a great story to start with but Jenna Coleman took it to another level. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Amazing 👍
