Publisher Description
Jet, the darling good girl of the city, uses her shadow-power to battle the forces of evil. But her shadows also mask the fierce demons that only she, her mentor, and her former best friend - and now arch-nemesis - know about.
Iridium is that former best friend: able to wield the power of light, she trained as a hero only to become one of the most infamous villains in the city - for what she feels are truly heroic reasons.
Alternating between the present-day threat and their past exploits as friends, and later rivals, at the Superhero Academy, the novel brings these two women to vivid life, portraying the complexities of being a true hero in a world determined to categorise you in a neat box of good or evil - black or white.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this complex tale, Kessler (the Hell on Earth series) and Kittredge (the Nocturne City novels) create a dark world where the narrow line between hero and vigilante is defined by corporate interests. When tragedy strikes during their third year at a young superheroes' academy, best friends Jet and Iridium begin to grow apart, seeing their heroic world in different, and irreconcilable, ways. Shadow-wielding Jet becomes the Hero of New Chicago, where light-powered Iridium is seen as a rabid vigilante, and they find themselves archenemies. Both characters are intriguingly flawed: Jet suffers from insecurity, while Iridium's arrogance repeatedly gets her into trouble. When an investigative reporter disappears, Jet suspects Iridium's involvement, but the truth is far more complicated, keeping readers guessing whether the finale will be a reconciliation or a spectacular showdown. Jet and Iridium's multifaceted relationship will appeal to all who have come to want more from their superheroes than good vs. evil and mindless battles.

Black and White
This book is one of the best books I've read in a while - the action is heart stopping, only to be countered by the wonderful romances and the great tales of two girls' frienship. It is cleverly written, with each author covering a different character (I think Jackie Kessler does Iridium and Caitlin Kittredge as Jet), which adds to the idea of them being two very different people. This book had me in fits of laughter right the way through to crying in despair as the story unfurls itself. I cannot wait to read the next one, Shades of Gray. This was a fab read, and I'd recommend it to anyone who'd listen!
