On a small Australian island, a child goes missing.
Disillusioned with his life as a city cop, Reed Kapua has taken a position in the police department on Kangaroo Island. After a massive injury he needs peace and quiet to get his mental state back in order. Travelling on the ferry over to the island he meets Sierra, a long term resident who also has a traumatic history.
On his first day, Reed is immediately thrown into the search for a missing child. Could she wandered away or is there a more sinister explanation? With such a small island population it is unbelievable that one of the residents could have taken her.
Sierra's past comes back to pursue her and it's clear someone is intending to cause her pain and distress, finally there is an attempt on her life. Sierra and Reed become closer, but will Reed be able to protect Sierra while searching for the missing child?
The author has written an excellent mystery with twists and turns in the story including a few red herrings. Thoroughly recommended.
