Destined to fall in love with these characters
I was first introduced to Melissa Foster’s ‘Lover’s At Heart’ book about 5 years ago, and in it I was first introduced to Rex Braden. So when ‘Destined For Love’ was released, I was so excited to get stuck into it and learn more about this burly, brooding hunk.
Rex is strong-willed, determined and on the outside you believe him to be quite stubborn and at times cold, but he is like a marshmallow in the centre, and there’s no one but Jade Johnson to weaken him.
Jade Johnson is the woman he loves to hate, and if he listened to the opinions of his family, he is very much meant to hate her. A feud which divided two families, have meant Jade and Rex are to be sworn enemies. But when Jade’s horse is injured and she needs help, Rex reluctantly becomes her hero.
I absolutely loved the forbidden romance element to this story, but also found both characters being very strong-willed, independent and determined entertaining. Jade has given up a lot, leaving a veterinary practice behind to essentially start over. But the one thing Rex and Jade have in common is their love of horses, and how very in tune to the animals they are.
These characters have real witty and flirtatious banter, and it will keep you on your toes, whilst equally making you laugh.
I am re-reviewing this as I received a copy of the Audiobook and wanted to add this as part of my overall review. For anyone who loves forbidden romances, or enemies to lovers, this book will be entirely your bag. B J Harrison is the audiobook narrator, and his voice is deep and lulling that you can imagine it is Rex speaking.
The audiobook has reignited my love and adoration for these characters. This series was the first one by Melissa Foster I read, and I have been a loyal addict since. I’d recommend the audio book to anyone who would like to get stuck into an excellent series and for those always on the go. It has kept me thoroughly entertained.
The story is not only hot and steamy but it's also heartwarming
I was introduced to Rex Braden in the previous book Lovers at Heart, Rex has helped his dad working on the family ranch since leaving school, he's loyal, honorable, strong, a family guy and obviously rather handsome. The problem is that the girl he is in love with, Jade, the very girl he has loved since school, is a 'Johnson' and is strictly off limits. The Johnson's and the Braden's are the centre of one massive family feud after both fathers fell out over a land dispute years ago, the very mention of each others name is prohibited. What makes matters even worse is that Jade is just as much in love with Rex as he is with her, but neither want to break their families hearts and cause more distress than there already is. Jade and Rex have years of pent up affection, lust and love for each other, will love win out or will their family loyalty win?
I enjoyed the whole horsey theme to this story, especially the close bond and affection all the Bradens have for their mothers horse Hope, their father had bought their mother the horse when she became ill before she passed away. Loosing their mother affected each of the Braden family deeply in different ways and there is such a connection to Hope.
The second half of the book strongly grabbed me and I read it in one day, I just couldn't put it down because I needed to know what was going to happen next, it was intense and emotional! The author easily pulls you into the story feeling that your part of it as it unfolds.
The story is not only hot and steamy but it's also heartwarming, emotional, and reinforces just how much family really matters.
