Different Stars for Different Times: Memoirs of a Woman Doctor

Publisher Description

This autobiographical account traces the story of Dr Margaret Guthrie following her return to New Zealand in 1963 as a widowed mother of three children. She describes her experiences as a medical officer in an Airforce Base and as New Zealand's first female medical superintendent of a major hospital in the 1970s. Since the 1980s Margaret has been at the forefront of gerontology in New Zealand, helping to plan the country's care for its elderly citizens, through government, voluntary and professional channels. This book tells the story of the outstanding life and career of a sensitive and thoughtful woman doctor.
In 1997 Margaret was awarded a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to Gerontology.
