WOW! This novel brings it down to a personal level, recounting events through the web of interlacing soldiers. I simply could not put it down. The more dire the situation, the faster and faster I found myself reading. It was as if by reading faster, I could somehow save the characters from their dire predicament. MOVING! This is a real unputdownable book. It is a stirring account of Dunkirk through the experiences of 'real' people. I found it moving, tragic, gut-renching and uplifting. I am an avid reader of books in this genre, whether fiction, faction or factual. I can honestly say that this rates amongst the best that I have read. David Holmes
