Publisher Description
From the ultimate storyteller Stephen King comes, a 'joyful, uplifting' (Entertainment Weekly) tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences, now with a new cover look.
In the small town of Castle Rock word gets around quickly. That's why Scott Carey only confides in his friend Doctor Bob Ellis about his strange condition. Every day he's losing weight - but without looking any different.
Meanwhile a new couple, Deirdre and Missy, owners of a 'fine dining experience' in town, have moved in next door. Scott is not happy that their dogs keep fouling on his lawn.
But as the town prepares for its annual Thanksgiving 12K run, Scott starts to understand the prejudices his neighbours face. Soon, they forge a friendship which may just help him through his mysterious affliction...

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this surprisingly sweet and quietly melancholy short novel, King (The Outsider) weaves an eerie, charming tale of the ways that strange circumstances can bring people together. Scott Carey is losing weight, but not mass, and there's no scientific explanation for it. Scales register him as lighter and lighter, though his body remains as potbellied as ever, and the effect is constant regardless of what he's wearing or holding. Shaken by his untreatable, supernatural ailment, Scott begins to notice the world around him and particularly becomes aware of the nasty prejudice that other residents of Castle Rock, Maine, are inflicting on his lesbian neighbors, Deirdre and Missy. He sets out to fix the injustice ailing their small town, and maybe make some friends along the way. This is a lilting ode to the ineffable power that crises hold to change and mold those involved into something new. King's tender story is perfect for any fan of small towns, magic, and the joys and challenges of doing the right thing.
Customer Reviews
Stephen king does it again!!!
Once again King makes you love the characters in this book, you become immersed in them and want them to succeed but as so often happens in Kings books they don’t, leaving you with that feeling of longing and thinking why does it always happen to the good ones. This story is very short but still carries the power that comes from Kings writing.....you won’t be disappointed.
£9.99 for a short story
£9.99 for a short story couldn’t believe how greedy a publisher can get . It’s just a good short story nothing more.
