FOREWORD FROM ELIUD KIPCHOGE

From one of the world’s leading sports scientists and former advisor to record-breaking athletes Paula Radcliffe and Eliud Kipchoge, FASTER is an essential guide to improving your running – whatever your distance or goal.

Leading physiologist Professor Andy Jones draws on decades of research and a wealth of experience as a consultant in elite sport to explain the science behind speed, energy, resilience and recovery, and to provide practical, research-backed strategies you can use in your training and racing.

With clear examples and engaging stories from across his own career as a competitive runner, Jones offer insights for refining your training and developing your own focused plan – whether your goal is to achieve a new personal best, improve your VO2max or running economy, tackle a new distance, or simply keep running for many years to come.

Containing chapters on nutrition, training, sleep, pacing and supplements, together with an appendix of sample training plans, this book is a science-backed and field-tested guide to performing at your best and a must-read for anyone serious about getting faster.

‘If you want to learn more about the wonderful world of endurance, read this book. I guarantee you’ll finish it more knowledgeable, but, importantly, also more inspired’ – Tom Craggs, Runners World UK head coach and World Class Programme Endurance Performance Lead with UK Athletic

‘An essential roadmap for the thoughtful and ambitious runner’ – Alex Hutchinson, author of Endure

‘A great book! Cutting through the noise, Andy explores the true drivers of training and performance with a winning combination of science, stories, and the experience of a world-leading physiologist’ – Innes Fitzgerald, European under-20 champion and Parkrun record holder

‘Instead of selling a magic secret or a single approach to training, Andy analyses the pros and cons of the most “trendy” theories, utilising his knowledge and fine communication ability to ensure the book is a must read for whoever wants to understand more about the fascinating world of running and how to have a serious try at being Faster!’ – Claudio Berardelli coach to marathon world record holder, Sabastian Sawe

‘A perfect summary of the science and stories that make me love running’ – Louise Burke, marathon record holder and Professor of Sports Nutrition
