A young man is found brutally murdered, his eyes gouged out. Attorney Thora Gudmundsdottir is commissioned by his mother to find out the truth, with the help - and hindrance - of boorish ex-policeman Matthew Reich. Their investigations into his research take them deep into a grisly world of torture and witchcraft both past and present, as they draw ever closer to a killer gripped by a dangerous obsession...
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Iceland’s Yrsa Sigurdardóttir swept onto the international crime fiction scene with this fast-paced mystery steeped in the occult. After a university student with a passion for witchcraft is found murdered, attorney and single mom Thóra Gudmundsdóttir joins a prickly but handsome ex-cop to investigate. Smart, capable and broke, Thóra is a witty, instantly relatable heroine. We loved keeping up with her through this twisting tale of dark secrets and chilling violence.
Customer Reviews
A good read
Gruesome and weird but entertaining and a good read.
Ancient rituals in modern times
Investigating in depth, of a students ritual death. Witch hunters, spells, symbols and tattoos, takes the reader along a fascinating road of what makes people resort to such spells. I was gripped by this book as it was not your usual crime scene investigation case.
Great read
