Publisher Description
This is the story of little me, from pudgy, awkward child to pudgy, slightly less awkward adult – via school musicals, adolescent angst, stand-up, Shooting Stars, Little Britain, Doctor Who, love, loss, wigs and giant pink babygros. And, in case your attention span is as short as mine, it comes in a handy A to Z format. So B is for Baldy! (yes, people did shout this at me in the playground), G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real life gay) and I is for Idiot (I was born a berk. I probably even stubbed my toe on the way out).
It will warm your heart, make you snort out loud in public and there’s even a catchy song in the middle. What I’m saying is, please buy this book. It is VERY good. I know I’m biased because I wrote it but it is.

Heartwarming and insightful
As someone who watched Shooting Stars during my early teens, and followed Little Britain and Come Fly With Me too during their original runs, I have always been a fan of Matt’s work. I heard about his book through a Richard Herring podcast which Matt had appeared on and bought the book there and then. I don’t know what I expected other than to relive a little bit of my youth through someone elses words, I suspect. What I found was much more than that though. I always suspected Matt was a friendly guy- it comes across in all his characters, but he’s also very warm and honest too. Theres no sense of falseness in this book. He doesn’t seem to come across as a ‘celebrity’ in the conventional sense, always a bit uneasy with the word, as I suspect I would be, were I to be in the same position. He’s worked hard to get where he is, and I hope he continues to enjoy his life and make more comedy, because there are plenty of us who want to laught heartily with him. Matt has endured some awful hardships in his life too, which I didn’t know about previously, and you really feel for him at times, which is odd for someone you don’t know.
The one critisicm I have of the book is the A-Z layout, and even though he explains it, I feel it ruins the flow of the narrative, having to jump back and forwards, sometimes it’s tricky to orientate yourself, particularly if you have been reading gradually over the course of a couple if weeks. However, it doesn’t detract from the story overall, which is why I heartily recommend it.
Matt Lucas Autobiography Review
Yer, was alright but Natalie who stole Kevin’s toblerone after she got fingered by David at the back of Mr.Scotts shed after Kelly’s birthday party stole my phone but she didn’t coz i punched her right in the fanny and I read it in jail after I got arrested coz she said my dad had ran over her cat or summin or nuffin. Good book. Wish he was on the tele more :(
