Hudson and Scarlett
I love this book, so much so that I have both the ebook and the audio version in my collection. This wonderfully moving book from Carrie Ann Ryan, the story gripped me and pulled me in from the very first word until the last. It's the fourth book in The Cage Family series, and this time it's the turn of Hudson Cage to find his happy ever after.
Hudson is one of the most interesting characters in this series. He's featured in all the earlier books, and I, for one, couldn't wait to learn his backstory. He's a reclusive artist who now resides permanently at Cage Lake. He carries both physical and emotional scars from his time in the military, as well as emotional scars caused by both his parents. He would do anything for his family and has a protective streak a mile wide. This is an enemies-to-lovers story; the woman who wins his heart is Scarlett, aka Scar, the Manager of the family-owned resort at Cage Lake. Scarlet also has her own emotional scars, caused by an abusive father, as well as her abusive ex.
I loved the push-and-pull between these two; their chemistry is palpable and hot, but their journey to their HEA is far from smooth. It's an emotional rollercoaster ride which has drama, violence, attempted murder and kidnapping, but don't worry, there is also love, loyalty and family, and they do find their happy ever after in the end. Although this is part of a series, it is good enough to stand on its own.
If you decide to buy the audio version it is excellently narrated by Kit Swann and Lance Greenfield.

One quick obsession in Cage family series by Carrie Ann Ryan.
Hudson is a veteran and does struggle with PTSD and survivor guilt.
He’s struggling to get back to a normal life and paints for town but also sells his work and is very successful at it.
Scarlett has her own PTSD and abusive past. I love the heated developing relationship through the story and loved how they develop especially after the one statement of “who hurt you?”
Lance Greenfield & Kit Swann did a beautiful job of narration and would recommend any Carrie Ann Ryan audiobooks especially because she picks the best that fits her characters.
