A woman of no importance, she manoeuvres in her restricted circumstances as her long-time love Captain Wentworth did in the wars. Even though she is nearly thirty, well past the sell-by bloom of youth, Austen makes her win out for herself and for others like herself, in a regenerated society.

Like all Jane Austen novels, was well written and addictive
My favourite novel
This is the comfort blanket I return to again and again. Not as frothily romantic as P&P but more mature and more solidly emotional, with real and likeable protagonists and an entertaining supporting cast of fools, villains and adorable demi-heroes. The perfect rainy-Sunday read.
Another nondescript offering from Austen. A girl is persuaded not to marry a sailor.
Eight years later they renew their aquaintance.
There are lots of uninteresting characters.
Nothing surprising happens.
