Publisher Description
Dark, moving and beautifully written, Bernie McGill’s debut collection of short stories explores the lives of women across the generations. From the storm-battered coastline of the north of Ireland to the sleeping villas of Andalusia, McGill’s characters grapple with the consequences of affairs, bereavement, alcoholism, illness and murder.
Compassionate and quietly powerful, McGill’s stories capture intimate moments of loss, love, and healing in a troubled age.
SHORTLISTED for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize 2014.

Sleepwalkers by Bernie McGill
A compelling collection of short stories. Each tale invokes a different set of emotions as you empathise or sympathise with the main character and a compulsion to know more when the story ends. To be able to craft so many well rounded individuals in the space of each short story is carried out with the ease and insight that only comes with being a true professional. Writing of this calibre should be savoured and then shared if not shouted about.
I can promise anyone who likes attention to detail, observation and dark humour will love the angst and turmoil that each woman experiences as they come to terms with their grief process; from loss of a loved one to loss of trust.
A classic piece of literature.
I cannot praise this highly enough.
