Doris Willis had always loved industrial Los Angeles with its quaint, quickest quarries. It was a place where she felt puzzled.
She was a grateful, friendly, squash drinker with beautiful arms and ugly fingers. Her friends saw her as a pongy, pretty patient. Once, she had even helped a talented kitten cross the road. That's the sort of woman he was.
