The Babysitter is a carnal tale of taboo and blackmail. A young woman’s carefully planned existence takes an unexpected turn when the man for whom she is babysitting—a longtime friend of the family—discovers she is dating her cousin. Trapped between a rock and a hard place, she has no choice but to give in to the man’s blackmail. The deal is simple: Sex for secrecy.

Excerpt from The Babysitter:
I told Mr. Miller the truth. At least part of it. I explained how Max and I weren’t actually blood relatives. I also revealed I was madly in love with him. It wasn’t exactly true, but I was hoping Mr. Miller would take it easy on me if he thought Max and I were in love. The last thing I did was beg him not to tell my mother. As much as she loved me, she wouldn’t understand.

Mr. Miller didn’t speak for the longest time. He just sat there, staring at me. This went on for almost a full minute before his lips finally curled into a smile.

“All right,” he agreed. “I will keep your secret, but you must do something for me in exchange.”

“Anything!” The desperation in my voice was impossible to miss. Mr. Miller must have heard it too, because his smile widened.

“I was hoping you’d say that,” he whispered softly as he leaned toward me.

Time seemed to slow down as the man’s lips neared mine. His eyes were closed. His lips hovered slightly apart. I caught a glimpse of his tongue. Logic told me Mr. Miller was getting ready to kiss me, but our past together told me that was impossible. He had always been like an uncle to me. Why would he try and kiss me? Before I could come up with an answer, his lips made contact with mine and all hope that this was some sort of misunderstanding evaporated.

I remained frozen in shock for a second then push him away.

“What the hell are you doing?” I demanded. I’m not sure if I was repulsed or freaked out. Perhaps a little of both.

Mr. Miller smiled, as if amused by my flustered state.

“I think it’s pretty obvious,” he answered.

“I don’t,” I shot back.

The man’s smile faded. He was all business.

“You have a secret you want me to keep. I have something I want you to do for me. It’s a simple trade, one favor for another.”

“Stop speaking in riddles,” I said. “What exactly do you want from me?”

“All right,” agreed Mr. Miller. “Straight to the point it is. I will keep your secret. But in exchange, I want to take Max’s place. At least for the night.”

I couldn’t believe it. Was Mr. Miller, the man who had been a second father to me for as long as I could remember, really suggesting what I thought he was?

“A-Are you saying you want me to have sex with you?” I was so terrified I barely got the words out.

Mr. Miller remained silent for a few seconds, then placed his hand on my thigh and peered into my eyes. “Yes.” He spoke with extreme clarity, obviously wanting to make sure I understood the full scope of what he was asking.

I couldn’t breathe, let alone speak. I just sat there, stunned. It took a while, but my brain eventually came back online and I was able to process the new information I had been given. I analyzed the situation. If I refused to have sex with Mr. Miller he would tell my mother. Of course I could tell her he had tried to seduce me. That would be bad for both of us. But if I accepted the man’s offer, perverse as it was, my mother would never find out about Max and me. But keeping my relationship a secret meant cheating on my boyfriend… with a man I had considered to be family for my entire life. It was an impossible decision, yet it was one I was required to make.

I’m not sure how long it took, but my mind was eventually made up. Opening my eyes, which I only now realized were closed, I focused on Mr. Miller and told him my answer.

“All right,” I agreed. “But you must swear you will never tell my mother about Max and me.”

“My lips are sealed,” assured the man. “At least figuratively speaking,” he added as he leaned forward to kiss me…
