Abercrombie leavens the violence with light banter ("Whoever would've thought, a few months ago, when he was diligently reviewing the monastery's accounts, that slathered with gore would be a phrase he routinely employed?") and touches of sweet sapphic romance. Fans will come for the wicked swordplay and stay for the growing bonds between the eclectic cast.

What a talent
Yet again Joe has delivered. We are in a new universe and it it so eloquently delivered. I love the books and as a person who works alone and out of doors for a lot of the time I strongly recommend the audio book, read by the peerless Steven Pacey. More humorous and less dark than previous books. Worth every penny, though.
