In this sequel to The Selection, America Singer continues her deliciously entertaining quest for the affection of Prince Maxon and the title of Princess of Ill a in her country's time-honored tradition. Now whittled down to six girls, the Elite, the competition has grown even more cutthroat. Though Prince Maxon has made his feelings for America known, she wavers between wanting to be his future bride and following her ever-present feelings for her first love, Aspen, a guard from her hometown who has been assigned to protect her at the palace. Like the first book in the trilogy, this installment offers delightfully royal treatment for America, cat-fighting and tension between the remaining girls, a bit of dramatic action when rebels invade the palace, and, of course, tantalizing clandestine moments with both Maxon and Aspen. America's "whatever shall I do?" musings can get a little taxing, but all in all, Cass delivers another round of enjoyable, clean, romantic fun for readers who would love to spend just one day in America's pampered shoes. Ages 13 up.

Better than the first book
Significantly better than ‘the selection’ with some characters’ storylines further developed. Greater exploration of the King’s relationship with Maxon & further interaction with America create a more exciting plot. Additionally, competition from Kriss and Celeste, as well as more information on the rebels add to the book’s intrigue.
I would however have liked more clarity on America’s preference for Maxon over Aspen. It is evident that she no longer loves Aspen as much as she did, so there is no need for the prolonged love triangle structure in the series. Great read nevertheless!
I loved it, one issue though
I overall loved the book the one thing I didn’t like though was how up and down she was with maxon and aspen, at a certain part it started to piss me off. I loved the book and recommend everyone to read it. I thought I was gonna hate the series but I ended up loving it.
Price
I love this series and would love to finish it but I feel that the sequel is a bit too expensive for me right now. Agh!
