APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
With scenes of abject horror from the opening pages and twists that keep on twisting right through to the end, The Escape Room is not what you’d call an easy Sunday afternoon read. Taking part in a reality TV show is the stuff of nightmares for many, but when Bonnie gets inadvertently signed up to The Fortress, she plans to simply walk away when the going gets tough. That’s until she learns the game show is set in an ex-military fortress off the coast of Portsmouth. And soon, being abandoned at sea proves to be the least of her worries. The Escape Room draws inspiration from the success of recent reality TV shows like The Traitors and the explosion of the true crime podcast genre to tell Bonnie’s story, which is downright chilling in parts. As contestants begin to turn on each other, L.D. Smithson leaves you trusting no one in a thriller that must be read without interruption.
