About the author
CLIVE STAPLES LEWIS (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a fellow and tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954 when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Mere Christianity, Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics, the Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and been transformed into three major motion pictures.

Enjoyable Start To The Chronicles Of Narnia Series
‘The Magician’s Nephew’ by C.S. Lewis is the one book in the well known and well loved Chronicles Of Narnia book series by C.S. Lewis. The book was written in 1955 and centres around the creation of Narnia when a boy and girl (Diggory and Polly) are sent to Narnia by Diggory’s uncle. The book features the white witch (Jadis) and Aslan.
The book is a really enjoyable book and a really good prequel to ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’. This book is well written and the characterisation is reallly good. The descriptive beginning of Narnia as due to the religious theme, the creation of the world if really good. I would recommend reading this book then if you haven’t already continue through the rest of the Chronicles Of Narnia series.
Read this BEFORE the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe !
The numbering of this series can be confusing. Whilst most of us think of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as the first book in the series - it's actually the second ! Lewis wrote a prequel, The Magician's Nephew, to explain the origins of his magical land of Narnia. It's a fantastic book and a 'must read' for all true Narnia fans !
