Interesting read, good writing

Every parent wants to protect their child, but sometimes you can push them away by being to protective and not letting them grow a little, giving them some trust.

Rosie is almost 16, she is going through all those teenage problems that girls go through, rebelling.she wants to party like her friends. But 15 year old Rosie in now lying in a coma, fighting for her life, she has been sheltered all her life. But Rosie has secrets, she has secret social media accounts that her mum and aunt don’t know about. She doesn’t always go where she says she is going, or meet who she has told them she is meeting. Now she desperately wants them to know what has happened but she can’t talk.

Toni is Rosie’s mum and all she ever wanted was to protect her, from the evils of the world. She has secrets as well, that were kept from her daughter, she had had a traumatic childhood. But is she suffocating her daughter because of her own past? Bridget, Toni’s sister and Rosie’s aunt knows Toni’s secrets and promised not to discuss the past.

The story is told through three viewpoints, Rosie trapped in her coma, Toni her mother and Bridget the sister and aunt. We find out what happened to Toni, which explains why she is so protective of her daughter. After Toni’s husband was tragically killed, Bridget put her life on hold, to help her sister pick up the pieces and help raise Rosie. But are they too overprotective.

The story is told in most part in the past, explaining through Rosie how she has ended up in the coma, Toni and Bridget’s story from 30 years earlier, and the pact the sisters made to bury the past. But now they may have to unbury the past to save Rosie.

If you like your stories to be at a slow pace, gradually moving along then this is a book you will enjoy, but if like me you, like a faster pace then you will have to be patient. This is a very well crafted story but for me at times a little disjointed and too slow until you reach around 70% into the book. But it’s all down to personal preference many people like a slower paced book. The characters are well drawn especially Rosie with her teenage angst.

Every parent wants to protect their child from what can be a cruel world at times. But we can’t wrap them in cotton wool. In a world where social media is now so prominent, youngsters wanting to have thousands of friends or likes. The times of when you just had your small circle of real friends that are around you seems to be changing.

This is a good read, up to date with the times we now live in. Although for me at times a little slow but the story works.
