READ IT BECAUSE

Discover how the Cicatrix Maledictum affects even the most stubborn and steadfast of the Imperium’s warriors, as traditions the Space Wolves hold dear may be stopping them from defending the Imperium to the best of their abilities.

THE STORY

The Indomitus Crusade has brought the Emperor's vengeance to thousands of star systems. The fleets and armies under the leadership of Roboute Guilliman fight for the survival of humanity against the forces of the Chaos Gods. But the traitors and heretics are not the only foe looking to destroy the rule of Terra.

Xenos prey on human worlds in numbers not seen for millennia. Worst amongst them are the rampaging orks, whose migration conquests threaten to reverse the many gains of Fleet Primus. And their throaty bellows carry a name not heard in years, of destruction made flesh, a bestial warlord without peer: Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka.

In the midst of this brutal tide is Fenris, the world of the Space Wolves. Depleted by ever-greater demands on their warriors, called upon by the Legion-breaker Guilliman, the Wolves of Fenris face a momentous decision. Grimnar and his counsellors must choose whether their fate is to ally themselves with an ancient rival and risk all that makes them the Vlka Fenryka or to accept their demise and wait for the return of their own primarch and the coming of the Wolftime.

Very hard going

I’ve loved the previous DoF books, but just couldn’t finish this. The writing and characterisation are basic at best, and it’s painful to read.

Probably doesn’t help the Space Wolves have such ridiculous names for everything, but it definitely is a let down in the series.

Baby-blue Wolves

Where is Vlka Fenryka? Wolves in this book are childish, prone to stupid mistakes and taking egocentrism for honour.

I’ve read probably all Space Wolves books for 30k and 40k. The Wolftime is the worst. I would gladly unread it.

Let’s start from Logan Grimnar. If he would be like described in this book, Space Wolves would be exterminated about 10 years after him taking over Great Wolf title. NO clue, bundle of wrong decisions dictated by selfishness and personal complex.

Then there is Ulrik the Slayer - the guy completely disconnected from the reality and trying to resolve everything by killing it. No brain, no opinions - just an echo of this undeveloped Grimnar.

And this is about everything to be said about the First Born Wolves.

Primaris are no better. In previous 2 books in the series Primaries have the cause and pride of the gene seed they belong to. Space Wolves Priomaris behave like they had gene seed of Logan Grimnar rather than Leman Russ. They are naive and behave like typical child in the mist.

Very disappointing and damaging to the one of the most iconic Space Marines Chapter.

Vlka Fenryka is no more after this book.

Just baby-blue marines with furs. Sad.
