SOMETIMES MAGIC LIES WITHIN . . .

When the young student Tyen unearths an ancient book, it opens the door to a realm of mystery and danger. For it contains a clue to a disaster threatening the world.

Elsewhere, in a land ruled by priests, Rielle has been taught that to use magic is to steal from the Angels. Yet she has a talent for it, and desperate times may force her to risk the Angels' wrath.

But not everything is as Tyen and Rielle have been raised to believe. Not the nature of magic - and not even the people they trust.

A gripping fantasy adventure filled with danger, intrigue and forbidden magic. Perfect for fans of Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss and Peter V. Brett.

An enjoyable opening

I liked these stories, and the characters within them drew me in. I've already bought the sequel and pre-ordered it's sequel!
The story flows quickly and without too many characters in worlds you quickly come to understand.
The chapters are a good length and keep things moving through two vivid settings.

I did find that Vella's speech seemed to be formatted as normal words, which made it difficult to tell sometimes if she was speaking or the narrative was!
There were also a few cases where a large scene shift took place in a sentence in a paragraph, so by the next it took a bit of re-orientation to know what was going on.

Overall I loved the pace and stories and am going to start "Angel of Storms" tonight!

Average

Good book, easy to read. I will agree with the comments from other people saying that is a good book to open the series. I found it a little boring sometimes. But I will continue to read the series and see how it will end.
