Publisher Description
A murderer is hiding beneath the city of light—and Lou Thorne is running out of time.
When a celebrated feminist art historian is found dead in her Paris bathtub, authorities call it a shocking suicide. But Lou Thorne knows better. Her compass—the dark gift that guides her to killers—has been pulling her relentlessly back to Paris, and it won't let go.
Then an Algerian graduate student vanishes.
Lou finds what's left of her in the catacombs.
As the deaths begin to stack up, Lou realizes something is wrong. Her compass won't lock onto the killer. The trail fractures. The answers refuse to surface. And while more women disappear across the city, Lou is forced to confront a terrifying possibility: the truth may be buried deeper than any body.
Caught between an elusive predator, a city built on secrets, and the dangerous loyalties surrounding the man she loves, Lou must hunt without her greatest advantage—before the killer strikes again.
Dark, atmospheric, and brutally intimate, What Comes Around is the sixth installment in the Shadows in the Water series—where justice isn't clean, monsters wear human faces, and survival always comes at a cost.

Death and Gelato. Lou Thorne’s favourites
I like Kory’s books (I binge read the Dying for a Living series recently) and her writing style. This one is no exception. I read it out of sequence from the series as it is the latest one, but I will now go back and read the rest. I already knew the background to the series.
Kory invests her characters with a humanity that despite the supernatural nature of the story draws you into their world and makes it ‘real’. (Like all her books).
If you are already a Lou Thorne fan then you won't need convincing anyway. If you haven’t read any of Kory’s books I strongly suggest giving this one or all of them a read. If you like well crafted female characters with a good supporting cast you won’t be disappointed. As for ‘Death and Gelato’ well Lou dishes out both with equal enthusiasm, but I think Death is probably her favourite ! Well maybe. (Read the book).
You don’t want to miss this!
Another fantastic offering from Kory!
I was unbelievably fortunate enough to be graced with an ARC of this book and I’m still going to purchase it.
If you like the Louie Thorne stories you will not be disappointed with this one.
It has all the feels, I laughed, cried and bit my nails at the suspense.
I can’t wait for the next instalment of this series.
