The Moonstone Fire

Three days after someone set fire to a cabin on the edge of Moonstone, Wisconsin, John "Bozeman" Hall is on his knees in the ashes, hunting the person who wanted his best friend's wife dead.

What he finds instead is a woman with a rifle, a coughing little boy, and a stolen red chicken, all hiding in a cave in the snowbound woods.

She says her name is Dolly. She says she had nothing to do with the fire. And the tread of her shoe matches a print at the scene.

Bozeman has spent years keeping the world at arm's length. A war took his leg, his steady hands, and a boy he could not save, and he swore he was done letting anyone close. But Dolly and her son are running from something colder than a Wisconsin spring, and the longer he searches for an arsonist, the harder it becomes to tell whether the real danger is the one still out there, or the stubborn woman who is quietly thawing a heart he had given up for frozen.

In a town with a mansion they call the North Pole, the warmest thing in Moonstone might be the thing that burns them all.
