They took me out of a funeral and the whole church stood up and let it happen.

They were not saving me. Nobody has ever been saving me.

The man keeping me now has known me since the day I was born. He brought pastries to my mother's kitchen. He carried her coffin. He has never once raised his voice at me and he is not going to.

That is the part I cannot survive.

Lev is coming. Of course Lev is coming. He will burn Brighton Beach down to the sand to get to this house.

I have spent my whole life not asking for anything. My father taught me that what you hide is what makes you valuable. I was a very good student. It has cost me a brother and it is not going to cost me her.

So here is what I want, out loud, in front of all of you.

I want the man who has been feeding this city its grudges for nine years. I want the family that let him walk her out of that door. I want Brighton Beach to understand what it means that she is mine.

Then I want to go home and sit in her kitchen and eat something I cannot taste and ask her to stay.

I have never asked anyone for anything in my life.

I am asking.
