Holistic Education

Holistic education aims to instill human beings with a global conscience and a vision of love and intelligence. This book provides a creative exploration of the emergent holistic vision, which brings together the various areas and disciplines of human knowledge, expression, and contemplation. It lays out principles of holistic education simply and clearly, explaining its core tenets, key concepts, and points of departure from the old mechanistic educational paradigm.


Holistic education seeks to find a new way of living, which overcomes the contradictions of modern scientific-industrial society and the Newtonian-Cartesian paradigm. For example, mechanistic education as a process reproduces a fragmented, scientistic awareness, which not only fails to prepare students to lead intelligent, creative lives, but also imposes serious limitation on their abilities.


Holistic education adopts and incorporates the new needs and dilemmas of an emerging culture. It seeks to provide human beings with an integral education, one which not only addresses intellectual aspects, but also emotional, physical, social, aesthetic, and spiritual needs. The mission of holistic education is to educate people to live responsibly in a sustainable culture.
