Richard Allen

Richard Allen was one of the first freed men to make a stand for religious and educational equality, as well as for an improved quality of life for African Americans.


Though his life began in hardship, he believed in a better life for the oppressed.  After he was allowed to buy his freedom, he helped found the Free African Society, started the first African Methodist Church, and helped make positive change in his community.
