In the Offering Basket of Jesus

Descripción editorial

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents, calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” (Mark 12:41-44).This is serious lesson to take home; every offerings and sacrifice I make the master is interested and casts a strong eye on it. He didn’t send Peter or John the most loved disciple to monitor the offerings and the sacrifices casted on the offering basket. When he wanted money to pay the tax of the temple he sent Peter to go catch ship and take the money for the tax; when they were hungry he sent them to buy lunch in Samaria while he was talking to Samaritan woman; when they finished preaching and fed the crowd he told them to board the ship while he remained for prayers. When the time of offerings and sacrifices came the master himself took his notebook to record names and account of every one dropping the money in the offering basket.
Every time you approach the offering box the invisible master comes down in person and rocks his chair beside the offering basket to count your money and assess your behaviour in the offering basket. This is mystery but the whole truth. More amazing, your offering become a live wire to connect Jesus to your bank account and all your possessions that is why he knew who were giving residues and left overs versus the true and authentic givers without asking or counter checking with their bank balances. The moment we reach the offering basket our life become transparent more than the wall of glass; nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13).
