Introduction Heritage interpretation takes place when someone with knowledge of nature, culture, or history shares it with another. Both a communication process and a field of its own, interpretation has broadened considerably since its inception around 1920 with Enos Mills' book Adventures of a Nature Guide. The naturalists and guides who began the practice of interpretation produced a record of their principles.
