An Apple Books Classic edition.
Emma Woodhouse may just be Jane Austen’s most controversial character. Some see her as a spoiled narcissist who’s deluded about reality, while others view her as a well-intentioned and bitingly sarcastic young woman who matures before our eyes.
This well-loved novel-which is often adapted for the screen-is set in the early 19th century, among England’s landed gentry. After seeing her governess happily married, Emma decides she is a natural matchmaker and devises a plan to find her new friend Harriet a mate. What follows has all the makings of a contemporary soap opera. As usual, Austen portrays her contemporaries with a brilliant and subtle snark. Emma is a wonderfully entertaining read.
Customer Reviews
friends to lovers trope is the best!
Jane Austen I’m not quite familiar of your game, thank you for introducing me to mind boggling romance! Wdym the canon ship is already right in front of my face but I still thought Emma would end up with the other guy?!? Along with Scarlet letter though, I found the utmost difficulty to go on with this book, partly because my frontal lobe isn’t trained yet for this kind of english but mainly because I suck at reading “a day in my life” stories like this. I still liked this book for being a breath of fresh air, no crippling depression and other horrors, just genuine satisfaction from the wholesome father-daughter relationship and friends to lovers plot.
