Publisher Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
If you’ve only ever seen Wuthering Heights on screen, you may have an image of Catherine and Heathcliff as the ultimate star-crossed lovers. But that’s just scratching the surface of this iconic Gothic romance. Emily Brontë’s only novel is an unabashedly dark tale of passion and revenge that created shockwaves upon its publication in 1847.
Without spoiling too much, the original Heathcliff is breathtakingly vengeful, cruel, and possessive, not the deeply misunderstood romantic hero of some adaptations. And Brontë’s story does not end happily ever after. After tragedy strikes, Heathcliff haunts the swirling mists of the Yorkshire moors, consumed with possessing a ghost. A must-read for fans of Gothic literature, this novel will appeal to anyone who loves a creepy story.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Emily Brontë’s gothic masterpiece still has the power to shock. On the remote Yorkshire moors, an orphan named Heathcliff is taken in by the Earnshaw family and falls deeply in love with their daughter Catherine. But when Catherine chooses to marry another man, Heathcliff’s heartbreak curdles into a vengeance that will consume not just the two of them, but their children as well. It’s hard not to get swept up in the feverish emotions of this deeply strange love story, which is wilder and darker than many adaptations suggest. If you’ve never experienced Wuthering Heights, be prepared to fall under its spell.
Customer Reviews
reading this with no context cost me my sanity
The whole reading experience felt like I ascended with Catherine Linton (in spirit) to Wuthering Heights and stayed there with them for about four days tho the whole duration of my stay was their lifetime's equivalent. Those days were the worst days of my life! I was uncomfortable (as I should be) and in fear as I also should be), almost to the point of vomiting. Sometimes, when you're lucky enough you'll randomly enter a world hoping for some cute little romance but instead, you end up with generational trauma, violence, a tragic love story that will prolly take years to digest, plus a messy chain hence this pedigree chart here. Nevertheless, it was a great hike, highly recommended! No book ever goths the way this one goths!
