A man his age shouldn't have been up a ladder cleaning gutters. But the family know Uncle Roscoe is stubborn. So when the ladder slips and he falls to his death it's clear it was an accident. But why are holes appearing in Aunt Alice's story? And why is she behaving so oddly?

The police are looking grim and Hettie is afraid. Is her favourite aunt protecting someone, or does she have a guilty conscience? Hettie gathers the family to investigate but their efforts bring the ire of Sergeant Higgins down on their heads with an accusation of a cover up. Now that detective is closing in. And where is Ceefer when he's needed?

Hettie's at wits' end. Something shady is going on and she needs to figure out what it is. Fast. If she can't uncover the truth behind Uncle Roscoe's death, she'll be visiting Aunt Alice behind bars. And a trillion new croquet courts won't compensate for that.
