Confused and conflicted, Hetty doesn’t know whom she can trust and where she can turn to, especially when she discovers that someone has been watching her.

Realizing she is taking a huge risk—but unable to resist the intense attraction she has for Walter—she embarks on a secret love affair with him. Together, they dream about when the war will be over and plan for their future. Awesome! (Audiobook)

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading and learning about the events surrounding WWII in Germany, and who also loves action packed/character driven plots. I love that it is written from the perspective of a German girl, and in her inner dialogue we see just how manipulative the Nazi regime was. The romance felt a bit superficial at first but I was able to overlook that and still really feel invested in the couple. My favorite element of this novel is the emphasis on loyalty and friendship between Hetty and Ana. The ending broke my heart but in the best way. I look forward to more work from this author!
