Not a man
I have greatly enjoyed listening to the Black Company books and this one was no acception.I did enjoy listening to this one a little less due to the use of a female reader. Yes this book is read from the point of Lady, who is obvoiusly female, but it made the voices of male characters seem unrealistic and child like in many cases. All and all a good read and I look forward to the next book.
Narrator doesn’t do well
Marc as the narrator, in the first three, voiced the lady well. This narrator did not take cues from the previous books. Lady was dead pan with an occasional dry sense of humor. In this audiobook the lady is portrayed as flamboyant without a moments rest. Overdone and almost insufferable.
Loved it
At first was also put off by the female voice. But have to say, after I heard her wicked laughs turned me completely around. Though not all that certain she is Jonathan Davis.
I think the main problem is since the first five books were done by the same person, you became used to how Croaker, Goblin, etc, sounded. And it was a bit off putting to hear them sound otherwise.
