This Penguin Classic is performed by Tanya Reynolds, star of Sex Education. This definitive recording includes an introduction by Fiona Stafford.
With its imperfect but charming heroine and its witty and subtle exploration of relationships, Emma is often seen as Jane Austen's most flawless work. Beautiful, clever, rich-and single-Emma Woodhouse is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage. Nothing, however, delights her more than interfering in the romantic lives of others. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protégée Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected.

Great reading
I thoroughly enjoyed Tanya Reynolds reading of this, although I don’t have a lot to compare it to.
Why narrate so fast?
The book is obviously a classic (and I had read it - as in, read a hard copy - many years before). I was revisiting the book in audio form but I found the pace of the narration to be a bit too fast. It felt as if the narrator read it fast to fit into a prescribed time limit. Throughout, I wished that I could play this at a lower speed. Such fast reading does not allow one to appreciate the nuanced language, the small details, or the quick comments. It is a disservice to the writer’s language, I feel. Anyway, I stopped listening to the audiobook in frustration and went back to the real book.

Tanya Reynolds voice is PERFECT for this book.
