This program is read by multi-award-winning narrator Scott Brick.

"Brick employs perfect timing and emphasis to portray Evan and plays him with heart...Brick shines in long passages of exposition, setting up the stakes with deft talent, and quickly shifts into periodic high action."—AudioFile

"Gregg brings the series to life with his written word, so does Scott Brick with his narration. Scott’s impeccable timing and ability to seamlessly flow from one character to another bringing Evan and all the characters to life while keeping the audience breathlessly waiting for the next scene to unfold is simply masterful."—The Reading Frenzy

Once a black ops government assassin known as Orphan X, Evan Smoak left the Program, went deep underground, and reinvented himself as someone who will go anywhere and risk everything to help the truly desperate who have nowhere else to turn. Since then, Evan has fought international crime syndicates and drug cartels, faced down the most powerful people in the world and even brought down a President. Now struggling with an unexpected personal crisis, Evan goes back to the very basics of his mission - and this time, the truly desperate is a little girl who wants him to find her missing dog.

Not his usual mission, and not one Evan embraces with enthusiasm, but this unlikely, tiny job quickly explodes into his biggest mission yet, one that finds him battered between twisted AI technocrat billionaires, a mysterious female assassin who seems a mirror of himself, and personal stakes so gut-wrenching he can scarcely make sense of them.

Evan's mission pushes him to his limit - he must find and take down the assassin known only as the Wolf, before she succeeds in completing her mission and killing the people who can identify her - a teenaged daughter of her last target, and Evan himself. Matched skill for skill, instinct for instinct, Evan must outwit an opponent who will literally stop at nothing if he is to survive.

Orphan X is back!

The Nowhere Man is back and I’m excited. I love this series and characters. I listened to the audiobook and Brick Scott is back as Even Smoak! I couldn’t imagine anyone else performing the part. I had some criticism of Mr. Scott on the last few books. I felt he was getting a bit too overly dramatic and it he was becoming too distracting to me. I feel like Brick is back to form and he made this book even more enjoyable.

For everybody reading reviews to determine who makes appearances in this book I can tell you that Mia, Peter, and Candy are barely mentioned. The castle heights crew has a big subplot as well. We still get a lot of Joey, Melinda Tran, Tommy and Evan’s brother Andre and daughter Sophia. This story really revolves around family. The family we are born into and the family we make. Joey and Evan prove they are more than just colleagues they are a team and family.
There is also a ton of action. There were several nail biting action scenes that made me wonder how X would get himself out of the situations. Also, X has met his match in this new foe. She is not to be underestimated. This book has a lot of girl power. There are several strong women that drive the plots. There is one older woman that really gets the better of the Nowhere Man and he may never recover from that beating, lol.

I rate this book as a 4.5. Evan goes on a journey of introspection and once again reflects on his relationship with Jack and how he continues collecting people in his life that rely on him. I feel like there is a bit more comedy but also some serious intersection about life and getting older. There is action, reflection, and comedy and characters we love.

More vigilante Justice

A simple thing like searching for his newly discovered niece’s lost dog winds up having Evan Smoak, X, the Nowhere Man interrupting a murder, with a teen witness who's then hunted down to deal with the witness to the murder. Will he be able to save the world this time while he’s being hunted too? Only Hurwitz could pull this off and Scott Brick tells it well. Must read.

Escape

I love these books. They’re brilliant. This one deeper, and sadder than others. Adding layers to Orphan X who explores being human and learning what it means to have family with all its ugliness, beauty and complications. I wait for the next book, anxiously awaiting.
