Publisher Description
This entertaining and sharply written guide—for both beginners breaking into comedy and professionals seeking to improve their sets and advance their careers—examines the work of great comedians such as Louis C. K., Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Izzard, Moms Mabley, Hannibal Buress, Sarah Silverman, Richard Pryor, and more as a means of illustrating the most important techniques of performing and writing stand-up.
Here, Stephen Rosenfield lays out a clear plan for achieving success, candidly explaining what works, what doesn't, and why. Including a twelve-item "Successful Comedian's To-Do List," Rosenfield states, "Get undeniably good at each of these and you can kiss your day job good-bye. You will be a pro."

A solid and thoughtful….

Some schmuck put a cheap auto-editing device on the recorder. - - - Ergo "Chapter 17" becomes "Ter 17". Ad nauseum.
So many starting sentences are clipped you'll get Carpal Tunnel Finger Syndrome replaying the recording to try and figure out why the author is starting in the middle of a sentence.
Buy the book; spare yourself from the author reading endless clips of famous comic's acts in a monotone reminiscent of a California stoner overlaid with what could only pass as a drunken 5-year old doing the slightest imitation of the original comics accent.
There is some good material, but by the author pushing his political agenda, he taints the conversation and spoils the material.
And you'll love his rendition of the history of edgy comedy where he jumps from Lenny Bruce to Sam Kinison because apparently there were no comics in between that were worth mentioning. Sorry, Richard, Eddie, George.
