Publisher Description

The long-awaited memoir by the superstar of stage, screen, recordings, and television

PLEASE NOTE The audiobook edition is read by Barbra Streisand. Features additional anecdotes and music that are exclusive to the My Name is Barbra audiobook.

Barbra Streisand is by any account a living legend, a woman who in a career spanning six decades has excelled in every area of entertainment. She is among the handful of EGOT winners (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) and has one of the greatest and most recognizable voices in the history of popular music. She has been nominated for a Grammy 46 times, and with Yentl she became the first woman to write, produce, direct, and star in a major motion picture. In My Name Is Barbra, she tells her own story about her life and extraordinary career, from growing up in Brooklyn to her first star-making appearances in New York nightclubs to her breakout performance in Funny Girl on stage and winning the Oscar for that performance on film. Then came a long string of successes in every medium in the years that followed. The book is, like Barbra herself, frank, funny, opinionated, and charming. She recounts her early struggles to become an actress, eventually turning to singing to earn a living; the recording of some of her acclaimed albums; the years of effort involved in making Yentl; her direction of The Prince of Tides; her friendships with figures ranging from Marlon Brando to Madeleine Albright; her political advocacy; and the fulfillment she’s found in her marriage to James Brolin.

No entertainer’s memoir has been more anticipated than Barbra Streisand’s, and this engrossing and delightful book will be eagerly welcomed by her millions of fans.

Color Me "Surprised"!

When I saw there was an audiiobook version of her nearly 1,000-page autobiography, I was surprised to see that it was actually READ (and humorously annotated) by Ms Streisand herself. Of course, why would she give her audience anything less?

It's 48 hours long! That should satisfy any "stuck in traffic" commute or "stuck on the tarmac" airline flight.

Almost every national book reviewer has pointed out that this Audio Version is better than the book, since you get the Real Thing reading (and veering off-script at any time) in her true "voice". Like sitting down for a cup o' tea with Ms Streisand.

I am glad iTunes has made available to purchase AND download (not just "stream" or "rent") the actual audiobook (from the publisher), rather than having to submit to annother media company's DRM nonsense. (Well, yes, this is has Apple's DRM, too, but at least this copy is not floating about in some other "here today, gone tomorrow" Audible Cloud, but safely stored, off-loaded, in my digital library.)

Worth the wait!!

The greatest autobiography by the Greatest Star! I am 65 years old and have been a fan since I was nine and sat in the theater, mesmerized and enchanted by Barbra Streisand’s film “Funny Girl. “ I have seen all her movies and have every album she’s recorded, but this audio version of her life story feels as though I’m sitting down with her and she’s speaking directly to me as she recounts her tales and discusses her artistic process. I have both the book and the audio book, but I must say, nothing beats the audio version! Fantastic! I’m so happy to hear Barbra tell her story. It’s very well written and told. Of course it is! Everything she does is done so well, and that’s why she’s such an amazing artist. Thanks, Barbra! 💜

Wonderful!

A wonderful telling of Barbra Streisand’s career. So much heart and honesty. I’ve always been a fan, so I’m biased but this book is fantastic. I loved it.
