Publisher Description
The official novelization of the sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim from visionary director Guillermo del Toro!
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, rise from the sea, a war begins that will take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon is devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
"I wanted to make not a war movie, but an adventure movie, with a huge, romantic sense of adventure, a sense of grandeur, and operatic battles...."
—Guillermo Del Toro

Surprisingly good!
I tried this book on a whim—and was shocked to discover how much more there is to this book than just a bunch of giant monsters fighting giant robots. There’s a good storyline and great characters. The book dives into how and where the monsters are coming from, different tactics humanity tries to defend against them, and the aftermath of some of the destroyed cities. If you’re thinking this is something like Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla — just leave that at the door and prepare to be drawn in to the story. It actually had me looking forward to my daily three-hour roundtrip commute to and from work!
Why only four stars instead of five? Simple—I don’t rate everything I like a 5 star book. However, I’d give it 4.5 if I could.
Better than the Movie
This is one hell of an audio book; totally engulfing. If you loved the movie than you’ll love this audio book, all the gap and I mean all the gaps that the movie left you wondering about this movie fill in. If I had to give this audio book one this that would have made it an all time best in the audio book realm I’d have to say it could have had a sound track to go along with it like the Star Wars audio books, but other than it is a must have for any and all Pacific Rim fans like me.
